Traditionalists will rightly argue that the bamboo handmade chasen is an essential part of the tea ceremony. However, the number of people who like to have a bowl of matcha is significantly higher than the number of people practicing the tea ceremony. 

The Fugetsu Chasen was invented mainly for catering outlets and less orthodox, comfortable matcha lovers. 

Its main advantages include:

Thanks to machine production, the price is significantly lower than the original handmade chasen. Unless some accident like fire or tsunami happens, Fugetsu Chasen will last you a lifetime. 

 

Basic matcha preparation instructions:
- Place the tea bowl on a non-slip surface and hold it with your left hand
- Grasp the chasen tightly at the end of the handle
- Start moving the whisk in a "W" shape, up and down, accelerating until the matcha is sufficiently frothy
- Temperature is also important for creating a great lather. Follow the recommended temperature for your matcha. 
- Be relaxed when whipping, move only your wrist.
- Finish whipping with a spiral motion in a clockwise direction from the center to the sides.
